A full day off
Not just the whole day, but full of great stuff. It started out with a smile when I woke up to find this:

It was off to the chiro for me (by bicycle of course as I have found it is actually faster to ride my 3-speed steel mid-1960s cruiser than to drive, not to mention a lot more fun). Things are looking up for me and my neck area since getting into a corrective care plan at this new chiro. Today there was some pain in my right thigh/hip and when mentioned it got the special treatment (I make a point to mention anything that's bugging me so I get the most comprehensive care).

Next on the list, a mini road trip to beautiful Lindstrom, MN. It's really not all that far, but does feel like a world away. It's got that small town MN feel down pat and is oh so cute with it's Swedish flavor. I took my camera, but failed to take any photos. I think I was mesmerized. I was really only there to pick up a free tent. Did have to make a stop into one of the antique malls before leaving town though. I picked up a couple small items which are to be stashed away as gifts for occassions on the horizon.

The day was shaping up nicely and the weather still quite pleasant, so I decided to really stretch the legs of both my new bicycle and myself. I hadn't really done any long rides on this bike. Wasn't really sure how it would perform. Ran like a 1977 steel dream. I rode all over the place. Felt like 50 miles. I just mapped it though, was more like 30. I should really get a computer so I can see how fast I'm going and how far I've gone. And I'm really thinking some skinnier tires on this bike are going to be the way to go. I was zipping along though. At 30 miles (and a 45 min stop for photos at Minnehaha Falls) in 2 hours and 45 minutes, that's pretty darn good.

I did have my first tip-over experience riding clipless today. It was only a matter of time. Too bad it had to be in front of an entire intersection of cars waiting for the light rail to pass and the light to change. Got one foot clipped out, set the toe down on the ground to balance, got my camelbak halfway unclipped to get out a package of Goo, and BLAMMO! tipped myself right over onto the concrete. Ouch. My hip is a tiny bit bruised. Now that I've got my standing still tip-over out of the way, I'll remember to clip out both feet when digging in my bag.

And somewhere near Lyndale and Minnehaha Parkway I got whistled at (that weet-woot kind) by someone in a passing vehicle. While I generally find that kind of treatment of women somewhat annoying if not offensive, it fulfilled my own vanity in that moment that while dressed in shorts, a sports tank, biking shoes, biking gloves, helmet, and a loaded camelbak (not to mention doused in my own perspiration) I could be seen as a desirable creature. Though if it were me, I would have been whistling at my very flashy bike (yes, I know, no suitable photo has been posted of said ride just yet).

Topped the day off with a delicious dinner at the Pagitt's. It was the first weekly Porch dinner I've been able to attend in some time (due to choir commitments). Dinner at the Pagitt's is always fun. Tonight there were added guests from around the country who are here for the Emergent Institute going on at the Porch. Good conversation with good people.

Well, I have 2 digitals (and a bunch of old school film cameras), but the one I use the most is my Canon Digital Rebel XT. And I would advise just about anyone who can operate a digital camera to get what I've got. It's pretty user friendly, as long as you get the basic gist of a camera.

Did you meet my pastor Jeff Kursonis at that gathering? I'm pretty sure he's the big guy in the background in that picture (Viking-looking guy)...he is in Mpls. for Emergent stuff this week. Say hi to him if you see him Sunday!!
