marvelous day for a monday
Went to work yesterday like it was any ordinary day. The air was muggy, the sun trying to shine through, a bunch of people with bicycles broken or acting up over the weekend for me to contend with. Mondays never fail to be busier than one expects. The season is winding down for us, people receiving notice of their impending layoffs (not I, having three seasons seniority), others going off to school. Myself wondering just how much work and how many hours one can expect in such a shop over the winter months and daydreaming about some form of perfect job where I might get to enjoy my weekends out doing things or simply at home relaxing.

Daydream interrupted by the Regional Manager wishing to speak in private (which means one of a few things, many of them have the possibility of being negative). Fearing a bit for the worse (a layoff even after my years of servitude), I went forward to this pow-wow.

To my great shock, delight, surprise, speechlessness, and internal conflictedness, I was offered a new opportunity. A new job had been created at our Burnsville store with myself in mind for primary candidate to fill it. A job which works normal people hours during the week with weekends off. Spends most of my time behind the scenes and little of it face to face with customers. The catch, I had to decide quickly. I'd be starting immediately. The downside, I would have to continue to drive to work, my bicycle commuting plans put on hold (and at the time, I though my plans for purchasing my new bicycle I've been saving for in order to fix said troublesome automobile).

Standing in the parking lot, looking at my sad little Honda and thinking about my great co-workers and my current job of fixing things from 10am-9pm many days and how much my hands hurt from a summer's worth of wrenching and my weekends which could be freed for thing neglected (such as biking and camping), I just took the job. Reached out and grabbed it with both hands. It was mine and all the great benefits that go with it.

Starting Thursday, I am in charge of store operations at our Burnsville location. My bike is ordered with an interest free loan courtesy of my company, my car will most likely be posted for sale soon with plans to purchase a different one with a few less issues, and my weekends are now open for whatever I wish :)

SWEET! That is so great that they created this job for you, and with awesome hours. And you'll also be traveling against rush-hour traffic! Woo-hoo! Sometime when Matt works an evening (does that happen?), you could come over for dinner after work or something?

Hooray for you! I went to Burnsville recently....apparently that's where all the fun is. I passed signs for Valley Fair, and skiing and stuff like that. Have fun down there!

You still have to come over to our house for dinner one of these days too!!! :o)
